About Us

JB Cooper LLC, a small shop fundraising communications agency

You and your donors heal the world every day.
We help you keep it that way. 💛

Hi, I'm Julie Cooper, Principal at JB Cooper LLC

I'm a proud fundraising communications nerd whose mission is to help nonprofits retain donors and boost revenue.

The fancy title on my email signature is "Fundraising Copywriter and Donor Communications Specialist." This means I love working with my nonprofit clients to plan, write, and design effective print and digital communications.

Combining a passion for meaningful connections with expert skills, I help bring messages to life, driving both engagement and fundraising success for her clients.

I've spent my entire career in various roles with the primary purpose of fostering meaningful connections. It's always been my passion. I've been on the inside, most notably as an animal organization's president and board chair. I've also helped many community nonprofits and national and international organizations reach their goals. And I can help you too.

Brett and I are members of The Case Writers, a small crew of successful fundraising copywriters, designers, and strategists.

I've also worked with Moceanic in their coaching program to help nonprofit professionals beat their fundraising targets by 2x, 3x, or more. And I've tutored in the Certificate of Fundraising Copywriting Course at the Institute for Sustainable Philanthropyfrom which I earned a certificate in Philanthropic Psychology with distinction.

Time and again, I've seen donors who FEEL more CARE more and GIVE more. You can make that magic happen. I'd love to help you on the journey!

Hi, I'm Brett Cooper, Chief Storyteller at JB Cooper LLC

When I was 7 years old, I almost died.

I was riding my bike on the sidewalk in front of my home, one-handed, not pedaling but coasting, moving the handlebar back and forth to stay in motion. Slowly.

Too slowly. I'm told I tipped over and cracked my head on the concrete. Blood trickled from my ear. I was out cold. It was touch and go. My mother tearfully recounts how I'd asked her before my surgery (to remove a blood clot from beneath my skull), "Will I be stupid?" The doctors said if the accident had happened 5 years earlier, they would not have had the medical technology to save me.

I think this is why, ever since that fateful afternoon, I've been drawn to storytelling like a moth to a flame. I think I see the world differently than most people do. I treasure life — all life — every day. I'm keenly aware of our human fragility . . . and resilience. The combination of the two is a wonderful mystery. I try to embrace that mystery, to savor every moment, and to look for (and find) the best in people.

The rest is academic. I graduated university with an English degree, and later earned a Masters of Teaching in English. I honed my writing skills over 30 years by crafting short stories (about a dozen), screenplays (3), novels (3), and collaborative novels with students (22).

I was a middle school English teacher for 14 years before diving full-time into nonprofit storytelling — where I've found to my never-ending delight that fiction and donor comms are not so different. A good story is a good story.

It's my mission — and my privilege — to help you bring your good stories to life.

Your Donor Communications Will Be Handled With Care, Professionalism, and Expertise

As professional copywriters and communications strategists dedicated to helping nonprofits succeed, we promise we will always demonstrate a high level of integrity.

(Yes! We're partners in work and life.)

When we're not nerding out nonprofit-style...

We enjoy walking our dogs in the park, reading books while listening to vinyl, cooking together, and catching up on shows like Survivor and Yellowstone.

Our family...

Although our kids are grown now, we love to find time for family adventures and hijinks when possible.

Highlights include family dinners, charades, kayaking down a local river, ATVing in the deserts of Utah, and hiking hither and yon.
